Gene NmDef02 encoding a antimicrobial putative defensin.

The NmDef02 gene encoding a putative defensin shown to have a antimicrobial activity towards several important plant pathogens. Expression of NmDef02 in tobacco and potato plant enhanced their resistance to various pathogens [1].

NmDef02 was obtained from Nicotiana megalosiphon. It has been previously successfully expressed in yeast , and the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was ranging from 1 to 4 uM of the tested microbes[1].
